You deserve your dream teeth. But if your desire for a straighter smile is causing you to clamp your mouth shut for photographs, there is a solution. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign retainers offer a discreet, comfortable, and effective alternative orthodontic treatment.

As one of Yorkshire’s largest and most experienced Invisalign providers, we understand how complex figuring out a new treatment can be. We’re often asked questions such as “does Invisalign hurt?”, “how much is it?”, and “do I have to do anything differently during treatment?”. Here, we answer all of these, so you can take confident steps to a confident smile.

What is Invisalign?

Using clear teeth aligners that are almost impossible to detect, Invisalign treatment offers a more discreet way to straighten teeth. Invisalign aligners are removable and comfortable, since they're custom-made to fit your mouth and teeth. By gradually shifting teeth into a more desired position, the treatment is renowned for its precise, predictable results.

Can anyone get Invisalign?

Invisalign is suitable for a whole host of orthodontic issues, from minor movements to more involved cases. In general, most people can get Invisalign, but it’s particularly effective for slightly crooked teeth. It can also be used to push teeth into place if there is dental crowding, to close small gaps in teeth. And if you’re wondering “can Invisalign fix overbite?” - yes, it can do that too. As always, it’s best to get a personal assessment and a full 360 investigation of your current dental health, an intraoral 3D digital scan, and X-rays in order to plan your bespoke dental treatment - all of which is done when you register with Fresh Smile.

Does Invisalign hurt?

While Invisalign is not considered painful, the initial adjustment to wearing aligners (including when you switch to a new set) may cause some discomfort and mild soreness. This usually goes away after a couple of days. If you’re nervous about how Invisalign will feel, feel free to speak to our friendly team -we’re the only cosmetic dentist in Huddersfield to be Dental Phobia Certified, taking a gentle and understanding approach to your dental treatment.

How much does Invisalign cost?

Depending on the complexity of your bespoke treatment (and therefore how many aligners are required), the cost of Invisalign differs. In the UK, the average cost can range between £2,500 to£5,500. Again, this depends on the specific fees charged by the dental practice. We believe that everyone should be able to achieve their dream smile, which is why we offer 0% interest-free payment plans for our Invisalign treatments. We offer two set plans for our Invisalign treatments. These also include £1,000 worth of extras you won’t find anywhere else, including 12months’ aftercare, and require fewer check-ups due to our digital scanner. View our fees page for up-to-date pricing.

How long does Invisalign take?

Depending on the complexity of your treatment, Invisalign cases can take anywhere from five months to 18months to complete. The good news is you can start straight away. Fresh Smile is the only practice to start Invisalign treatment within24 hours of your initial consultation. Then, impressions are taken of your teeth to produce a series of virtually invisible aligners. Every two weeks, you’ll wear a slightly different aligner until the carefully controlled force shifts your teeth into the desired position. We’ll keep an eye on you every step of the way to make sure everything is going in the right direction.

How to clean Invisalign

During a dental check-up, your dentist will check every aspect of your oral health in relation to your general health, including your teeth, mouth, and gums. They’ll look for signs of tooth decay, the health of your tooth structure, worn restorations, and any early signs of gum disease or oral cancer. As well as our thorough checks, all our patients are required to undergo a complete 360 investigation of their currentdental health, an intraoral 3D scan, X-rays, personal smile goals, discussions of any concerns (or those identified), and bespoke dental treatment planning when they register.

Are any lifestyle changes required with Invisalign?

Invisalign treatment is almost impossible to detect, so you can carry on with your daily activities without trying to hide your smile. From coffee to curries, we cover the commonly asked questions about aligning life to your aligners below.

What can you drink with Invisalign?

Plain water is the only beverage that’s safe to drink when wearing your aligners. Soda, juice, and sugary drinks are best limited, or consumed after removing your aligner. A common question we get asked is can you drink alcohol with Invisalign? And what about your favourite morning brew? Does coffee stain clear braces? Good news - since Invisalign aligners are removable, you can still enjoy caffeine and cocktails throughout the treatment. However, we do recommend taking your Invisalign out before drinking hot tea or coffee. As well as potentially staining your clear aligners, the heat from the brew could warp their shape. That makes them trickier to get in and out, and the heat could ultimately ruin them. Staining is also a risk with alcohol, as well as potential risk of bacterial growth due to dry mouth, so be sure to take your aligner out before that special night out.

What can you eat with Invisalign?

Again, thanks to Invisalign’s removable nature, you have full freedom to eat what you want during treatment. However, there are a few points to consider, including removing the aligners before eating. Many people ask us ‘can you eat curry with clear braces?’, or are concerned about other colourful foods that can potentially stain. This is not a problem with Invisalign, you simply just have to remove your aligner. It’s also essential to follow hygiene practices, including brushing your teeth, flossing, or rinsing your mouth after eating.

Can you vape with Invisalign?

We don’t recommend vaping, e-cigarettes, or any form of smoking while wearing Invisalign aligners. Not only because it can expose your teeth and mouth to potentially harmful chemicals, but also because these chemicals and particles in e-liquids can stain and discolour your aligner (and teeth). Vaping can also lead to dry mouth, reducing saliva production and increasing the risk of oral health issues.
