Here at the Fresh Smile Clinic, we believe your oral health is as important as your general health, and now that 2018 is here, what better way to start improving it?
Making some subtle changes to your oral routine can have a major impact on the year ahead and many of us include dental health goals as part of their resolutions, so why shouldn’t you?
From completing that delayed treatment to changing that poor toothbrushing technique, there are many benefits to taking your teeth and gums seriously this year and one thing we can promise, if stick to them, they can be as rewarding and motivating as any of the others you have on your list.
So, let’s take a look at some of the resolutions we’re encouraging our patients to look at this year. With that, good luck everyone and from all of us here at Fresh Smile Clinic, may we wish you a very happy, prosperous and healthy 2018.
Make healthier beverage and food choices
Snacking, in particular, can be very damaging to our teeth. If you consume, for example, drinks and food that contain certain acids and carbs, this can lead directly to food decay. Consider using a Xylitol-based chewing gum or a lozenge after a snack which will help reduce plaque buildup and cavity-producing bacteria.
Consider improving your smile
While you brush and floss daily, you’d be amazed at the amount of smile-improving tricks and techniques there are out there to help you bring that extra spark and dazzle to your smile. Teeth whitening, carried out by a dental professional, is a great, safe, quick and affordable way to dramatically improve your smile. There are also a number of whitening products to be bought over the counter for home use. If teeth whitening isn’t something you’re interested in at this stage, consider buying a teeth whitening toothpaste. Used daily it can start to drive great results over time.
2018 may well be the time to think about getting some expert restorative work done on your pearly whites such as fillings, dental implants and crowns. Not only can treatments such as this will not only complete your smile and make you look great it will also help you maintain, preserve and restore the alignment of your teeth.
See your dentist regularly
We can’t stress this one enough, making a regular trip to your dentist can reveal a number of oral disease issues and help combat oral issues before they become a problem. Make sure you make the trip every 6 months and allow the professionals, including your hygienist, to monitor the condition of your teeth and gums.
